Teemu Vesala, Senior DevOps and DevSecOps Consultant
My name is Teemu Vesala and I started my job at NorthCode in July 2020. My current title is Senior DevOps and DevSecOps consultant and I would say my expertise area is quite wide.
In my career history I have had SW developer roles and I have been working with SW management and information security. Currently I am mainly busy with Cloud Automation, cyber security, architecture, and quality control. I am ready to do anything that could help developers.
At the beginning of year 2020 I was considering a lot of what to do next and I was then working for a product company and wondering where to find a job I would enjoy myself, have a good pay and nice people around. I went to many interviews and got plenty of job offers but in most of them the problem was in the role and salary I was offered and the job description in general. When meeting Ismo and Toni over lunch we realized we share a common view of how to run a consulting business and a match in what they expect and what I want from my role.
The specialty here at NorthCode is that we all are owners, not just employees. Consultants get their share of the profit and thus can get better salary in average because there is not just one owner who wants to get hold of all the profit. All this enables us at NorthCode to be able to together plan the company strategy and future scenarios, and the attitude is not based on the mindset of “I am just working here”. We are cooperating a lot with each other and never leave any consultant alone with problems. There is plenty of knowledge in the company and you cannot have it all alone.
My routine day depends on customer´s requirements and my working hours are flexible. Personally, I like to wake up 7 am and finish my day early. Especially now that we work from home without the need to commute or drive to work, I would say my favorite time for work is from 6 am to 2 pm. Working from home office also makes it possible to go to the gym during the day and continue work in the late afternoon and evening.
I like to work with the best possible tools. At NorthCode the company budget is bigger compared to many other companies so currently I have 3 good quality displays, a laptop and tabletop at home but customers can also have their own demands for the tools.
In my opinion, the best part of working at NorthCode is that we all are highly experienced in the field. I have been working in IT-field in different roles for more than 25 years and I think with all of us here we have more than 200 years of experience and you get to work with specialists that are always willing to share their knowledge.
Furthermore, the ownership structure enables to get to work in different roles. The salary is not from the low end and based on the many offers I got – no one else on consulting field wants to pay the salary I get here.
